The illusory nature of money might be seen in a positive way in this crisis - why should we get so upset about such a weird abstraction as filthy lucre? It's just a man-made entity after all. Could it be the case that we just ain't tried hard enough to escape the powerful grip that money has on modern culture? Should we start to vusualise a time (maybe not long from now) when the established protocols of this money-obsessed world have imploded and new methods of exchange naturally surface in local economies? Radically different, diverse, terrifying and yet exilerating alternatives? I recall in the close that Nick Sherwood 'fessed up to having avoided engaging with this more radical type of analysis on our financial situation, and committed to keeping himself better informed going forward - and I'm sure he spoke for many people in the room.

Lovely swimming pic - I must admit to feeling a little envious of the swimming parties.

Ben BrangwynAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7510401356434571028.post-89873192678957877972010-06-18T14:57:51.519+01:002010-06-18T14:57:51.519+01:00Yes, I too missed the conference but listened to t...Yes, I too missed the conference but listened to the recording of the Stoneleigh talk and was very affected.

I like Charlotte's comment
"You don’t get to the butterfly without the caterpillar dissolving. And that dissolve is what we were looking at in the Stoneleigh graphs as they dipped. It was the pattern of collapse of a civilisation."

And of course, it will give us the opportunity, through the pain, of creating the world we want to see.

GaryGary Alexanderhttp://earthconnected.netnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7510401356434571028.post-80639701823325174802010-06-18T00:50:10.763+01:002010-06-18T00:50:10.763+01:00Dear Charlotte,

Was nice to get a perspective of the conference after the Stoneleigh moment, being truncated from the conference process directly after the lecture had more of an impact on me than I originally thought.

Love, SophiaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7510401356434571028.post-80489675898637841612010-06-17T12:13:25.261+01:002010-06-17T12:13:25.261+01:00Thanks Charlotte,

STUNNING presentation by Nicole Foss - I clicked on a link someone sent through the Transition East group (thank you Shane Hughes). I paid attention for the whole hour and a half, I even had to rewind and make notes, because I knew her conviction was completely correct, she was joining ALL THE DOTS. I knew some of it, had an incling of most of it, but hadn't quite managed the complete connection - seen the whole beast in the flesh. This IS the way it is and is going to be and it's coming mighty soon. A shockwave went through me. I think it's important to feel it. It consolidates everything about the importance of transition and a commitment to it. Information is power and here it is...

http://sheffield.indymedia.org.uk/2010/06/453356.html
click on the play button nearest the top of the screen

Lovely bit about Adrienne (o:
everybody reconnect to source a.s.a.p.!

Good wishes to all, AndyAndy Chttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07713364814704824312noreply@blogger.com
